This paper explores the political tendencies in Vergil’s Eclogues (Bucolics), analyzing how pastoral poetry reflects the social and political transformations of the late Roman Republic and the early Augustan period. Particular attention is given to the depiction of lost land, the relationship between shepherds and authority, and allusions to concrete historical events. Through a detailed interpretation of individual eclogues, the paper demonstrates how Vergil combines idealized images of rural life with implicit political messages, simultaneously suggesting support for the new order and expressing nostalgia for the past. The study concludes that the Eclogues are not merely a form of literary escapism, but also function as a subtle yet meaningful mode of political commentary during a turbulent period of Roman change.
